After completing my bachelor's degree in 2019, I was recommended by my departmental head to fill the position of a research assistant at a Non-Governmental research institute - Sustainable Livelihoods Development Network for Africa (SLIDEN AFRICA) represented in Nigeria, Kenya, and Ghana. This was my very first exposure to agriculture and rural livelihoods.

I realized through these experiences that an important aspect of the interaction between man and his environment is “Food”. It is core to his survival as its production, processing, distribution, consumption, and usage has either forward or backward impact on the man and his environment. Climate change, methane emissions, hunger, under-nutrition, obesity all exists as contrasting phenomena in the world of today. Economists are therefore required to find the interrelationships between them.

My immersion in the subject matter at this time led me to a 70days Zero food waste campaign tagged "building resilience against hunger through inclusive food management for sustainable livelihood" in 2020 under the umbrella of my organization at that time. After this time, I was completely sure that I wanted to pursue a career in Agriculture. I learned about the Russian Scholarship through my connections on Facebook*. I applied in October 2020 and was selected as a winner in the Economics/Econometrics subject area.

Among all the universities available in my subject area, I selected the Higher School of Economics because of its international rankings. I arrived about 10 months ago to complete my compulsory 1year Russian language studies. All through this period, I have learned about the Excellency of HSE and I really appreciate the very attentive lecturers, professors, and teachers who contributed to my acquisition of a new language.

I look forward to a more amazing period during my Master's studies at the department of Agrarian economics.
